All good things come in small packages December 14, 2006 Christian Wragg (South Yorkshire) 46 out of 46 found this review helpful
The player is small and compact and will fit anywhere. Yes the screen is small but with only 4gb you are mainly going to use it for listening to music.
The video player is very good but after showing it off to your mates I found that I never use it.
The radio reception is not the best when on the move, but when i'm sat in the house I get a really clear reception. This I was a little dissapointed with as you can have a radio on at home.
Transferring music is realy easy, simple drag and drop. Thats it.
Other features such as, shuffle, repeat, album of the day, random play all, most popular, rarely heard, storing photos, i could go on.
All in all an excellent mp3 player.
Great little mp3 player, love it November 5, 2006 weeze (UK) 79 out of 80 found this review helpful
Having already owned a Zen Touch 20GB mp3 player for a couple of years, I decided it was getting a bit clunky and wanted something a bit smaller and lighter. The Zen V+ fits the bill perfectly.
The V+ is a really tiny mp3 player that has excellent sound quality, built-in FM radio, and will also display colour photo's on its "Organic" OLED screen - this is really a side issue for me, but it's nice to be able to put on a few favourite pictures.
The V+ is quick and easy operate, very similar to a Zen Touch, except that you now use a tiny joystick and a 'play' and 'back' button; the volume +/- buttons are on the side. I'd say this is better to use than a Zen Touch and the display is brighter and clearer.
The V+ design has been well thought-out and works extremely well. I cannot really fault it. The only issue is the storage capacity: at 4GB it is big enough for most people, e.g. I've got 50 CD's on mine and it's almost full, but 8GB would have been much nicer, you could then get 100 CD's on it using mp3 stereo format at 192kbps/variable bit rate.
Truly great technology, never overlook Creative when buying an MP3 player! November 29, 2006 Carpii (Leeds, UK) 53 out of 54 found this review helpful
This is a truly great piece of technology. Everything just works as you expect it to, and want it to.
I owned an original Zen which I very much liked, but sadly lost. I then owned a Sony NWHD 40GB MP3 player. I hated this from day 1, because everything about it was all so unintuitive. Sony are a great brand but sadly they seem more concerned about DRM than actually making the device usable. Sony also force you to use this terriblly clunky software to load tracks onto your device (and you cant retrieve them from device to PC).
Words cant describe how utterly moronic this whole process is.
But not with the Zen V Plus!
Use Creatives own software which intergrates into explorer, or even better, simply drag and drop MP3s into explorer without even installing Creatives software.
The interface on the device is a breeze, and video quality is also good, but as the maximum storage is 4GB on upper end models, I find youll just use it as an MP3 player because of the storage limitations, and play a few videos when you first get it just for the novelty value.
Another great thing about this device is the minute size. The images rarely depict how really small it is, but its about the size of a box of tic-tac sweets. Brilliant!
Id love to see the ZEN V plus with larger capacities, but since its based on solid state storage, rather than hard drive, this may be some time.
If an 8GB model came out tommorrow Id buy it there and then.
Creative are a great great brand and I was a fool to ever try Sony. As for iPods: follow the masses if you want, but realise they arent as good as people would have you believe.
So Im clearly a fan, but does it have any downsides?
Well, the headphones that come with it are pretty poor. Youll want to replace those as theyre a bit tacky and not very good.
The only other thing is that the device looks a bit cheap and plasticky. It doesnt have the slick look of the iPod, Zen have clearly made it look fun rather than 'sexy'. Since its in my pocket most the time this doesnt matter to me. Id love to see a pure polished chrome version though, that would be superb.
Finally, Im a windows user. I dont know what support is like for Linux or Apple, But I guess if youre an Apple user, you wouldnt hesistate to buy an iPod anyway.
Summary: A 5 Star product, without hesitation.
Well worth the money June 24, 2007 Ben W-B (Reading, UK) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I am a secondary school pupil and I frequently have hour long bus journeys to and from my school. I had a Phone that MP3 playback but 1gb of music jut wasn't quite enough for me. I was in John Lewis and i saw the cute little player with my friends, it has and iPod like interface with:
*Music library*
> Playlists > Made on player or Computer
> Albums
> Artists
> Genres
> All Tracks
> Recordings
> Bookmarks
> DJ > Album of the day, most heard, rarely heard, random play all
*Now playing* > Shows Now playing
*Photos* > Goes into all your photo albums etc.
*Videos*
> Video (the panda ones are funny)
> Recently Browsed
FM radio > Goes into the FM radio
*Extras*
> Date & Time > you can guess
> Microphone > Records to the player
> Line-in Recording > Directly record from CD player or other music source with 3.5mm line-out (standard headphone plug)
> Organizer > set via computer
> Removable Disk > A portion of the disk as 'USB stick'
*System*
> Information > Tells you free space and track count etc.
> Audio Settings > Playmode, EQ, Smartvolume, Bassboost
> Player Settings > Owner, Orientation, Theme, Menu Config
> Photo Settings > Reset wallpaper, slide time etc.
> Clock Settings > Time in title, View Time/Date, Set alarm
> Language > 21 possible languages
> Reset Settings > you can guess
(by the way creative had patented the interface currently used by iPod and legal proceedings are going on at the moment)
*Niggles*
There are a couple of annoying things a wish to highlight:
-The FM radio cannot be manually tuned.
-On the computer you cannot move albums/songs from different places, this means you can't add more songs to the same artist, you have to remove the artist, then add the whole collection again, this messes up 'Rarely heard' and 'Most heard'
-'Rarely heard' and 'Most heard' only show play count if you go onto song information using info button
-You cannot add album art after you've added a song.
-It is so light, it is hardly noticeable in you pocket (could be a good thing but you won't notice it if it falls out
-Very few accessories. No mains charger means you can't listen to music whilst charging (goes into docking mode when plug into a computer USB, however you can charge and listen on a Wii or PS2)

I bought this player close to my birthday, because i was itching so much to get it, i had been browsing for several days, making a package i liked. When my mum ordered it for me she said i should just get the player and wait till my birthday before i got it. It doesn't scratch, but it does get a bit fingered marked.
Good range of buttons, not to complicated.
*Overall*
Ipod killer, if people would look away from the fashion of the ipod. Perfect for young people, Video function is useless but panda video music is funny. Battery great, i left it on over night and it was on a third battery. Buy a separate charger. Charges in 2-3 hours (approx). I would give it 4.5 stars.
TIPS October 27, 2007 Piers Baker (SW England) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I bought my Creative Zen V last year and it has been really good to me.
There are some things that I have learnt though.
1) When the MP3 crashes or what ever, connect it to your computer when you put the pin in. I found that it worked instantly and it restored all my music.
2) Zen cast is a pile of rubbish. You cant do anything with it and looking at the ipod's ''PODCAST'', podcast looks much more impressive.
3)I like it because the drag and drop system is very quick and effective.
4) Unlike Ipod's, when there is a band name with ''THE'' in front of it, all the band names with ''THE'' build up in one big bulk of names which I didn't like.
5)Alot of the time, it never charges up from the wall or PS2, so it only works well with the computer.
6)BUY A CASE, PREFERRABLY LEATHER. You can buy many cheap cases for like £2 on ebay. TRUST ME, It keeps the player intact, good looking and not greasy etc. I drop mine all the time and its fine.
(Although silicon cases leaves loads of marks around the screen you can get marks from where it has been sewn.
7)I found that it takes a long time to scroll so on this player, use quick alphabetical search and find the band through A-Z
I also heard that downloading stuff affects the sound quality of your player. Try to avoid this. (you can buy cheap albums off AMAZON!)
Have fun with it. I love mine. It is sleek and nice and you can do loads of things with back grounds and orientation.
You can zoom in on a photo, on your player, and set it as your background.
Trust, its a nice player and worth your money.
P.S. I give a 5 for the player
I give 4 for the online stuff
I give a 5 for the software (drag and drop is the best way)
